Tzami

Ierapetra’s mosque (Tzami) in Kato Mera (the Old City) was built in the late 19th century by Turks.

Its minaret was restored in the early 1950s as well as its fountain.

Ottoman fountain is located in the southwest of the mosque and form with it a remarkable complex of the Ottoman architecture in Crete. The name of this type of fountain is a sebil or sabil, which is a small kiosk in the Islamic architectural tradition where water is freely dispensed to members of the public.
