Iskra

Iskra training-combat airplane PZL TS-11.
'Putting combat jet planes into service of the Polish Air Force meant the necessity of designing modern training planes. Based on the assumption that new aircraft should be easy to operate, the team engineers led by Tadeusz Soltyk built the prototype. The maiden flight took place on 5th February 1960, and the first serial model took flight in 1963.
PZL TS-11 was designed for the jet planes training as well as combat units and was produced between 1963 and 1987 by WSK Mielec factory, It has been in service since 1964. 50 of these planes were produced for Air Force of India, where they remained in service till 2004.'

Samolot szkolno-bojowy PZL TS-11 Iskra.
'Wprowadzenie do użytku w lotnictwie polskim bojowych samolotów odrzutowych niosło potrzebę wdrożenia do produkcji konstrukcji szkolno-treningowej.
Skompletowano 424 egzemplarze. Mimo, iż zaprojektowany jako maszyna szkolna TS-11 mógł zostać doraźnie uzbrojony i wykonywać ograniczone zadania bojowe. Samolot wszedł do służby 1964 r. i używany jest do dnia dzisiejszego. 50 sztuk zamówionych zostało do Indyjskich Sił Powietrznych (korzystano z nich do 2004 r.)'

  4. Very interesting about the planes for the air force in India. This kind of history seldom makes its way across to us in Canada.

  5. A bit different in design compared to the old planes used for the same purpose in Sweden back in the day.
