F for Fortune

Villa Fortuna (Fortune) is a spa hospital and it's located at Rafińskiego St. about 150 m from the sea. It had its 50th anniversary in 2015 but the original building actually dates back to 1906. At this time villa consisted of two houses. One of them, at Rafińskiego St. was a home to Franz Muller who was a drawing teacher. Thanks to him there are many drawings of Kołobrzeg pre WW II, that survived to this day. This building was given a name 'Willa Fortuna' in the thirties. Both of the houses were destroyed in 1945. After the WW II the buildings were temporarily rebuilt and for a while they functioned as housing accommodations for the spa workers. Eventually in 1965 the villa became a spa hospital and some time later both of the buildings were permanently connected.

Oba domy zostały zniszczone i zdewastowane w 1945r. W tym samym roku prowizorycznie je odbudowano i zamieszkali tam pracownicy uzdrowiska. W końcu w 1965 r. willa została uzdrowiskiem, a w późniejszych latach połączono oba budynki.

  6. Am not familiar with what a "spa hospital" is? A spa here in the USA is a place where you can relax, often also keeping a diet, exercise. A hospital is where sick people go, get medication or surgery. Great word with F though, and am glad they found a purpose for the building! Have a great rest of the week!

    1. People forget that spa means ' healing with water', especially mineral waters and it stems from balneotherapy. And you are right regarding hospital. People can use spa here as you said for relaxing, but also people are sent here by National Healthcare System for rehabilitation after injuries or surgeries or with other health problems.

    2. Except for balneotherapy here people can be treated with eg. physiotherapy, laser therapy or cryotherapy.
