The Temple of Aphrodite
'The temple is located between the Great Harbour (commercial harbour) and the Military Harbour (Mandraki) of the ancient city of Rhodos. Oriented E-W, it was built of sandstone covered in stucco. It was a small prostyle-in-antis temple. Along three sides of the cella there was a colonnade in lonic style, the long sides of which were in the shape of semicolumns engaged along the walls. It dates in the 3rd c. B.C. The statue of Aphrodite Pudica in Archaeological Museum of Rhodes is possibly the cult statue of the temple.' Rhodes City, Rhodes, Greece.

ReplyDeleteInteresting.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great site. I love seeing old buildings preserved, even if it is just foundations, and imagining the people that used to live back in the day.
ReplyDeleteYou wonder what the ancients would think of what's sprung up around their ruins.
ReplyDelete...it looks ancient.
