We found ourselves in Kamien Pomorski completely by surprise. One day we looked at a map of the voivodeship and checked where to make a quick, one-day trip because that was all we had time for.
Cathedral of St John the Baptist is the first place that is definitely worth seeing. It is a Romanesque-Gothic church that was built between the 12th and 15th centuries. Depending on the period of time, it belonged to the Roman Catholic or Lutheran dioceses. Since 1992, it has been a co-cathedral of the Szczecin-Kamień archdiocese.
What often contributes to the charm of churches is, of course, the organs. The cathedral has baroque organs from the 17th century. Thanks to this, every year the Organ and Chamber Music Festival is hosted here (more information here). In addition, the frescoes on the ceiling of the presbytery, pulpit and baptismal font surrounded by a baroque lattice from 1685 deserve attention.
In 2005, the cathedral and the buildings around it entered the list of Monuments of History in accordance with the decree of the President of Poland. To the cathedral complex, among other buildings belongs the Bishop's Palace.
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary has a beautiful location because it is right by the Zalew Kamieński. The Zalew Kamieński contributed to the destruction of the Church in the eighteenth century because the storm destroyed it. The current Baroque appearance owes to the reconstruction in 1750.
The Kamień Pomorski Marina is part of the West Pomeranian Sailing Route. It is a network of tourist ports of West Pomerania. The construction of ports took place between 2009 - 2012 (Marina Solna in Kołobrzeg was also built then). The cost of the entire project was over 115 million PLN.
The marina in Kamień Pomorski has 240 parking spaces, two buildings of the port's facilities, modern sanitary and social facilities, access to water and electricity on mooring platforms, two hangars for storing boats.
We feel the wind in our marina every time. And here? Silence and peace. I have to admit, however, that we came across great weather. The water surface was flat. An amazing place. I'm very impressed. It's a shame that the marina was empty this time of the year, but still I envy people who live by the marina and can look at it every day while drinking coffee in the morning.
We were strolling through a nice pedestrian bridge to the Żółciński Peninsula as well. Thanks to it we saw the yacht port from the other side, without the need to board the yacht ;)
The town hall was built at the turn of the 14th / 15th century in the Gothic style. Currently, there are city council offices. In 1945 the building was destroyed. After the Second World War, it was thoroughly restored. It is the central object on the market.
The church of St Nicholas was built in the fifteenth century on the hill called 'Żalnik' on the south side of the city. Initially, it was called the Church on Górka, because it was outside the city limits. I really like small churches where you can come and pray in silence. Ours in Budzistowo is similar.
Let's not forget that Kamień Pomorski is a health resort. Those who would like to take advantage of it, more information here.
Next time we must find the Royal Boulder, from which the name of the city originated. Kamień Pomorski means Pomeranian Boulder. It lies a bit further and we did not make it.

The churches are lovely especially the Church of St Nicholas. It is so, so pretty.
ReplyDeleteOld buildings are so sturdy and if maintained they make the place ans its surrounding so charming.
The Kamień Pomorski Marina looks so calm indeed. The walk along the pedestrian bridge to the Żółciński Peninsula must have been so much fun.
I must say the Town Hall building looks impressive in its Gothic touch.
