Arc de Triomphe

Arc de Triomphe (French: Arc de Triomphe, Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile) - a monument standing on the Place Charles-de-Gaulle (Place Charles de Gaulle) in Paris (formerly Place de l'Étoile, Star Square). It is located in the 8th district, on the western edge of the Champs-Élysées. This is an important element of the Paris architecture, ending the perspective of the Champs Elysees. The arch was built to commemorate those who fought and died for France during the wars of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars.
The construction of the Arch began in 1806, commissioned by Napoleon, and was intermittently completed until 1836, during the reign of Louis Philippe I. The designer of architecture is Jean François Chalgrin, the sculptural decoration was made by François Rude.

  5. I was there and saw it for the very first time last December. It was raining so hard and I was waiting for the bus to CDG but everything was in chaos due to the greve. Luckily, a kind Italian guy offered me to split his cab to the airport. I'll never forget running under the rain in Champs Elysees with that beautiful Arc in front of me! Reminds me of how amazing Paris is (despite the greve throughout my stay)

    Warm greeting from the Philippines!
